‘’Argentina is home to most quality beef and wine’’ , this quote by Ambassador Alejandro HERRERO of the Argentinean embassy proved on many levels to be quite true, as attendees of the world Malbec Day event got the opportunity to witness the exquisite taste of Argentina, right here in Abuja.
On the 20th of May 2021, guests gathered at the wine tasting, cocktail event at the basement of the eminent Dunes Center, to celebrate great and quality wine; hosted by the Embassy of Argentina. This event was witnessed by high net worth individuals in the hospitality, development, luxury and entertainment scene, who gathered to interact with embassy representatives, winery owners as well as stakeholders in the wine industry, to network, and discuss opportunities Argentine wine poses to them- individuals and organizations alike.
Guests had the opportunity to taste Argentine wine and learn about its history and production from the team who gave speeches that provided more insight into why world Malbec Day is celebrated globally.
These events are taking major steps to begin importation of Beef and Wine into Nigeria- making them available at top shelf stores –ensuring affordable luxury is available to their Nigerian friends and business partners. These two things amongst a host of others are at the top of the Argentine governments’ priority list in Nigeria.
Political and Cultural reasons are amongst the key interests Argentina has in Nigeria. Nigeria and Argentina share a lot of cultural ties, we have found proof of Argentinean books, written by reputable argentine writers, being translated into traditional Nigerian languages: such as Yoruba and Igbo.
Ultimately, our eyes were open to the wealth of potential which lies between Argentina and Nigeria working together. Based on the cultural and historical ties that bind us as nations, who are both leaders in our spheres of influence- Africa and South America respectively. Argentina is the world’s eighth largest country that occupies an area more extensive than Mexico and Texas combined.
Their advancement in technology, particularly their knowledge of modernization of the food industry, would be of great service to Nigeria; diversifying the economy, making the agricultural sector more modern in areas such as production of milk, genetics, seed planting techniques, etc. It was inspiring to find out that Malbec wine is produced in cities and states across Argentina; In such places as Cuyo, La Rioja, Catamarca, El Peral to mention a few.
The Malbec world day 2021 was a beautifully organized event by the Embassy of the Argentine Republic to give those in attendance an experience of what it means to be truly Argentinean, opening doors to investments opportunities and for and stakeholders to dive into partnerships with the nation-without fear, in order to move progressively as a people with a common commercial, and cultural goal.
